Actually this is a ritual that has had to be repeated over and over by every child actor since the silverscreen over took stage and radio. To break out of being seen as a 'child' the teenager has to go through the 'public rebellion' phase. If they continue to be 'good' they stay labeled child far longer than if they just go through with the act of rebelling and let the paparazzi have it's moment to 'leak' their 'bad behavior'. Then after a very short time they are finally seen as adults and can move on with 'rebuilding' their lives as adult actors/entertainers.
