What do Johnny Depp, Christian Bale, David Wenham, Stephen Graham, Marion Cotillard, Channing Tatum, Giovanni Ribisi, Stephen Dorff, Adam Mucci, Billy Crudup, Stephen Lang, Shawn Hatosy, Emilie De Ravin, James Russo and Leelee Sobieski all have in common?
This massive cast will all be featured in the new Michael Mann film public enemies. The movie tells the story of charismatic gang leader John Dillinger, played by Depp, and determined lawman Melvin Purvis, played by Bale, the FBI agent tracking him down. It will be set in the great gangster era of the 1930's and will follow the government's attempt to stop Depression-era criminal elements - such as Dillilnger, Baby Face Nelson and Pretty Boy Floyd.
This is a remake of the 1973 movie Dillinger written and directed by John Milius and starring Warren Oats who plays a confident and coy Dillinger who toys with the law till the very end. The movie, narrated by the character Purvis, chronicles the last few years of Dillinger's life as FBI and law enforcement closes in on him. The movie opens with Dillinger as having established himself as the nation's top bank robbers, robbing a bank.Prior to that film, there was another Dillinger filme released -- the first one made -- in 1945 directed by Max Nosseck shot in black-and-white and features a smoke-bomb bank robbery.
It will also focus on J. Edgar Hoover's transforming the FBI to deal with a national crime wave. The script was written by Mann based on Bryan Burrough's 2004 book.
Michael Mann, director of such great films as Heat, Collateral and The Insider is going to surprize us and will likely take advantage of what he does best... show kick-ass shoot'em up scenes.

You can't beat having these two in the same film. They are both amazing.
