Emily Owens (played by Mamie Gummer - who also happens to be
Meryl Streep's daughter) is finally a grown up. She can finally put her high school days as the geeky-girl behind her - or so she thought? Have U Heard received an advance copy of the premiere of Emily Owens. The new series definitely kept my interest and by the end, I definitely wanted to see the next episode. The show delves into the notion that while we all wish popularity was just a high school thing - sadly it's not. No matter how old you may be - there is always going to be the "popular" crowd. From as early on as nursery school throughout your school years and into the old age home - there will always be the "in" crowd. Disappointing - I know.
Emily graduated from medical school, and she's beginning an internship at Denver Memorial Hospital, where her med-school crush Will Collins (
Justin Hartley, "
Smallville,") is also an intern.
Emily has been warned -the hospital is just like high school. With the residents in Orthopedics being the jocks, the
mean girls in plastics and the Anesteiologists considered the "burn outs." And the fact that her high school nemesis, the girl who made her life miserable all through school, who also happens to be gorgeous and of course, popular, Cassandra Kopelson (newcomer Aja Naomi King), is also a new intern at Denver Memorial. Can you imagine being followed by your arch nemisis/bully into the work world. That is every person's nightmare.
