LOS ANGELES - Blacklight Chronicles author and trans-lesbian poet Alysyn Ayrica Bourque announced this morning that erotic artist Nancy Peach is collaborating with her, doing the illustrations for the collection, due for release in March.
"Alysyn and Nancy have embarked on this journey of poetry, eroticism and art to provide the reader with both verse and imagery", a spokesman for Bourque said.
In a post on Peach's blog this morning, she describes the collaboration and how it evolved.
"I have known Alysyn for a couple of years now. Her partner, Will Griffith, sent me her poetry for me to write a review for the back cover of her new poetry book entitled Blacklight Chronicles.
I was hesitant, as I wasn't sure I would be able to write about it, as I am not a writer. I am an artist.
I found myself so absorbed by her poetry. I had to investigate it further, so I researched what every word meant. After spending a couple of days absorbing the words on the pages I then spoke to Alysyn and Will about me reaction to the work. I had visually interpreted the work without trying.", Peach wrote.
She added: "Alysyn mentioned that she would love to find an illustrator to do some images to go with the work. Of course, I have spent 35 years as an illustrator and have done many books. I told her that I would do some work and see if she wanted to use them.
It's a different approach for me, as generally I am commissioned by a client to illustrate their book in a certain style and they dictate what to do. In this case I am left wide open to create what I feel is going to relate to the poetry.
I have been creating for the past few days and have done the following illustrations. They are creating themselves and I am having a blast doing them."
Bourque said "Nancy Peach is the Empress of Erotic Art" and that she was honored to be working with her.
