CENTENNIAL, Colo. -- Former Arapahoe County Sheriff Patrick J. Sullivan Jr. was released from a jail named in his honor, one week after his arrest in a meth-for-sex sting operation.
The ex-sheriff left the Patrick J. Sullivan Jr. Detention Facility in a dark green Toyota 4Runner driven by a woman. He'd posted a $50,000 bond.
Sullivan, 68, was arrested on Nov. 29 after investigators used a hidden camera to record him handing methamphetamine to two male informants in the bedroom of an Aurora home, according to an arrest affidavit. The arrest was made by deputies from the agency he oversaw for 18 years.
Court records accuse Sullivan of giving younger men meth in exchange for sexual favors.
Sullivan was charged Friday with three felonies and a misdemeanor. The charges are distribution of a controlled substance, attempt to influence a public servant, possession of methamphetamine, and prostitution.
Investigation Expanding
Sources have learned that the investigation into Sullivan continued to expand Wednesday.
The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office has joined an Arapahoe County Sheriff Office's task force that is probing Sullivan's alleged double-life. Denver police are also involved.
The West Metro Drug Task Force conducted a drug investigation of Sullivan in January, Jefferson County sheriff's spokeswoman Jacki Kelley confirmed.
"He was in our cross hairs," Kelley said. But the case stalled when a confidential informant stopped cooperating with the investigation.
Cherry Creek Schools Reviews Hiring Of Men Sullivan Recommended
Meanwhile, Cherry Creek Schools is reviewing the hiring of more than a 100 security officers after determining that Sullivan, a former district security chief, helped six men get security jobs.
Sullivan, who was arrested this month in a meth-for-sex scandal, recommended a former gay porn actor who briefly worked security at Overland High School in 2007, Cherry Creek School District spokeswoman Tustin Amole confirmed.
