Nestled in a quiet little town of Jamaica in Vermont is one of the most talented Bluegrass singers and bands you will ever run across. Kelly Stand band and Eugene Morrison play and sing some of the best Bluegrass Music in New England. It is a small world indeed. I had known of Gene Morrison when I was a child. His family neighbored ours just a few houses away. More an acquaintance of other family members than of Gene, neither of us ever knew that we both shared a unique talent of writing song lyrics that seemed to just flow through our mind as if the universe was using us as a channel for the lyrics to be written. I discovered my talent at eight years old and Gene his at sixteen. I didn't realize until near the end of 2010 that Gene had anything to do with music. When I found his first album at our small town D&K's Country Market I was somewhat surprised. The first time I listened to the music I was amazed and fell in love with it and quickly bought a second album for my mother. Genes' music is Bluegrass with a country cross sound and could appeal to anyone who likes both genres of music. A quote from "Maverick" December, 2010 "Eugene (Gene),a native Vermonter and somewhat of a restless soul has been a jack of all trades through the years, having been away at sea, and having numerous occupations such as being a logger, boat builder, commercial fisherman, cutter for a salvage yard, and last but not least his present occupation as a carpenter. Gene never really thought of himself as a singer until recently although he had carried a lifelong dream of creating an album of songs from his lyrics. Gene has been jotting down lyrics for years and left some notebooks of his lyrics here and there in his travels. When Genes' first album "Looking Back" was created no one was compensated for their time and talent, except the enjoyment and recognition of having created something beautiful with their talents. a perfect example of small town generosity and spirit. Genes' first album is a collection of songs of life experiences maybe his own, maybe of friends and acquaintances, or just life in general. I think many people can relate to Genes awesome lyrics and that is one of the reasons his tunes are so popular. That's why Genes music has received the attention of Free Vermont Radio, an online radio station created by Dennis Steele, a fifth generation Vermonter living in Kirby, Vermont with his family.
