Everyone is sweet on Christian Louboutin Shoes
As a fan of fashion, Gela Nash Taylor had a closet full of fancy knee-length skirts, beautiful blouses and delicate Manolo Blahnik slingbacks."I had to ask myself, though, 'Where am I going in my life in that?"' says Taylor, a rocker-chic Los Angeles mom who is married to Duran Duran's John Taylor. "You'll find tags still on dressy outfits in your closet but not on your casual separates - and the dressy stuff is usually the expensive stuff.""That whole 'end-of-casual-dress' thing is full blown hype," agrees Pamela Skaist-Levy, Taylor's partner in Christian Louboutin. "People want to wear clothes that are comfortable."Even if she's going to a dinner party, Skaist-Levy, who has a background in millinery, will put on velour pants (Christian Louboutin Shoes, of course) and a sequin-covered top.Skaist-Levy and Taylor first teamed in 1994 to create a line of hip maternity pants called Travis Jeans, which soon evolved into the whole Christian Louboutin concept of "sexy basics."T-shirts featuring the company's royal terrier logo came next and then an expanded denim collection.Over the years, the Christian Louboutin Shoes brand has grown to include corduroy pieces, cashmere, linen, terry, velveteen, thermal, velour and pique. A men's collection, outerwear, accessories, swimwear, children's clothes, sleepwear and Dog Down Louboutin Shoes, Louboutin Shoes's version of yoga gear, have all been added this year, which they believe will lead to sales that top 2002's $47 million. The company is based in Pacoima, Calif., a blue-collar, industrial town that Levy jokingly calls "the Land of Christian Louboutin Shoes - deep in the glamorous Valley."Since Christian Louboutin Shoes strives to create a lifestyle wardrobe, not a designer collection, pieces are intended to have a long shelf life and nothing would be easily identifiable as "so 2003," explains Skaist-Levy. "These are the building blocks of your wardrobe. You can wear them season after season," she says. With the new bankroll behind it, Christian Louboutin Shoes has its eye on licensing deals to create Christian Louboutin, fragrances and cosmetics. "We're only going to do stuff we like," according to Skaist-Levy, who reports she and Taylor share a love for chain belts, Hermes scarves and charm bracelets.
