Step aside, Kaiser Karl, 'cuz according to Time magazine, you and your septuagenarian comrades (Giorgio who?) are no longer the kings of the fashion domain. Enter svelte, can't-believe-he's-47- years-old Marc Jacobs who, with tatts and piercings and all, is the only designer to rank among the 2010 Tome 100 List. Wait, it gets better: Friend and fashion icon Victoria Beckam was charged with interviewing Jacobs for the issue. She writes,
He inspires and educates me every time we meet. He changes how we see fashion with each collection he shows, be it his work for Louis Vuitton or his own baby, the Marc Jacobs line, which he started in 1986.
Jacobs, who is rumored to have recently split from husband-to-be Lorenzo Martone, isn't standing alone for the fashion industry, though. Fellow designers Tom Ford, Donna Karan, and Donatella Versace all doffed their design hats for newsboy caps in interviews with Liya Kebede, architect Zaha Hadid and Jet Li, respectively.
The Time 100 gala is scheduled for May 4 at Lincoln Center. Sarah Palin is expected to attend-she loves herself some fashion swag!
