Michael Shannon has been cast as General Zod, the main villain, in Superman: Man of Steel. The Boardwalk Empire star is also known for his role in Revolutionary Road.
Said director Zack Snyder of the casting: "Zod is not only one of Superman's most formidable enemies, but one of the most significant because he has insights into Superman that others don't. ..."
