I love Peter Gabriel so when I found out he won't be performing in the Oscars I was astounded. Rumor is that Peter Gabriel has pulled out of performing his Best Song nomination for the movie WALL-E because the Academy's show producers wanted to limit him to just 65 seconds on stage.
First of all, if you know anything about Peter Gabriel you would apprecite his plea. He only gets warmed up in the first 65 seconds of any song. His nominated tune, "Down to Earth" from WALL-E, is almost 6 mintues long. But I love what Gabriel had to say about it all...
"I'm an old fart and it's not going to do me any harm to make a little protest. But the ceremony should be fun and I'm looking forward to it." Despite the protest Gabriel will still be in attendance at the 81st Annual Academy Awards.
"I do think it's a bit unfortunate," Gabriel said of producers' decision to shoehorn the songs into one performance. "The songwriters, even though they're a small part of the filmmaking process, we still work bloody hard and I think deserve a place in the ceremony as well."
