Paul Rudd Could Romance Tina Fey in Paul Weitz's 'Admission'

March 15, 2012
Tina Fey has had some seriously enviable onscreen suitors over the course of her career - James Marsden, Jon Hamm, and Matt Damon, just to name a few - and she may now be about to add Paul Rudd to that distinguished roster as well. Rudd is reportedly circling the male lead in Paul Weitz's Admission, a dramatic comedy based on the novel by Jean Hanff Korelitz. He would replace Owen Wilson, who was weighing the role earlier this month but has since moved on. More details after the jump.
Last we heard, Fey hadn't quite closed her deal, but the new report from 24 Frames seems to indicate that she is definitely on board. Rudd is said to be "very interested" in the project and has begun discussions with the filmmakers, but has not yet committed at this time. Wilson's reasons for ultimately turning down the project are unclear.
Karen Croner is adapting Korelitz's book, which centers around a 40something Ivy League admissions officer named Portia. During one of her recruiting trips, she has two encounters that could change her life: one with an exceptionally bright teenager who's nonetheless not exactly Ivy League material, and another with a former college classmate that she doesn't really remember. Rudd is considering signing on as the latter, who takes a romantic interest in Fey's character. Though the film version will apparently be a comedy, it seems to have more of a dramatic bent than Fey's usual stuff, so I'm hoping it'll give her an opportunity to branch out a little.
The very busy Rudd most recently starred in David Wain's Wanderlust, and will next be seen in Stephen Chbosky's The Perks of Being a Wallflower and Judd Apatow's This is 40. Coincidentally, Rudd is also lined up to shoot Errol Morris' Freezing People is Easy with Wilson later this year. Admission will likely film in May, after Fey wraps the latest season of 30 Rock.
