Rob Pattinson: A rags to riches story ...not to mention a nice guy makes it big

A year ago, Robert Pattinson was virtually unheard of aside from playing a dashing extra in the Harry Potter series of films. He was going to give up and go back to England as he had tried out for True Blood and been turned down for other parts.The day before his audition for Twilight, he was ready to throw in the towel. Even his parents said ok, don't do it anymore.

Yet as of today, the 23-year-old who hails from the middle-class streets of Barnes in south west London, is about the most bankable star on the planet.

The Twilight Saga: New Moon, a film sequel in which Pattinson stars as the protagonist vampire, broke the all-time record for opening day takings in America at the weekend.
