Have you noticed that almost always when scenes are taken out of Movies either for story flow or time restraints, they should have been left in. This scene Shows Beau (Garrett Hedlund) and Kelly's (Gwyneth Paltrow) close bond and her character's struggle with booze. It also helped to show that Beau is really a caring good guy trying to help her.
