Providing you the full scoop...
Thai Authorities ban the popular sale of video game GRAND THEFT AUTO. This is the response to a murder of a Bangkok taxi driver by a 19-yr old student; the student later admitted GTA influenced his actions. I am curiuos if they would ban prostitution due to GTA in the same manner as they banned the videogame. Nah... that's not likely to happen any time soon.
An official statement was release to the press: 'GTA is banned mainly because of its obscene content -- under the criminal law article 287 that prohibits reproduction, distribution or possession of such material,' police spokesman Ruangsak Jaritake told the French news agency AFP. 'The police are empowered to immediately arrest hopkeepers if they find any GTA games on sale.'
Shopkeepers selling a selling a copy of GTA game face a fine of up to 6000 baht ($135 U.S.) and up to three years in prison. Online retailers face even stricter penalties of up to 100,000 baht ($3000 U.S.) and five years behind bars. WOW... that's harsh. You can bet the game will skyrocket on the black market.
The 19-yr old is Polwat Chino who was arrested after he was caught trying to drive a cab backwards down a Bangkok street with the wounded cab driver slumped in the back seat.
