Top Gun Sequel, Maverick Lives

Providing you the full scoop...
It doesn't take long for rumors to spread and I may be late to the party on this one. But rumors are flying all over that a sequel to the popular Tom Cruise movie TOP GUN is in the works. Most of this is coming from overseas (Times of India, Herald Sun Australia) as there are many fans in those countries. So here's the skinny giving credit where credit is due. The Sun released this bit of info from a supposed "insider"... Cruise will play his original role of pilot Maverick but this time he would be an instructor dealing with incoming wacky, cocky trainees. The script is ready and all is set except for Cruise to agree to do it.
I don't know if this works given that without Lt. Pete Maverick flying and kickin ass as the movie's sole focus it's not the same thing. And I don't believe Tom will fit into a cockpit of an F-14 anyway. Then again this is Hollywood and if they can resurrect rambo, Rocky, and Indiana Jones, they can do anything.
So what's next? I vote for a sequel to The Breakfast Club. Bring back Molly Ringwald and Judd Nelson for a good round in the cafeteria. But this time instead of dancing, harassing each other, telling stories, and smoking marijuana, let them rebel by being passionate about alternative fuels and green technology. Hey it's just a thought.
Anyway, I wonder if they'll bring back anyone else. Perhaps Goose as a soul hovering above the Pacific? I cried when we lost him. Remember these folks from the cast:
