There have been many comments on the net about the books and movie being over-rated and Twilight's success a fluke. The movie sales alone were nearly 400 million. That is more than a tiny group of screaming teens buying the tickets.
The books are compelling and original. How many books deal with teen issues, sexuality, spirituality, immortality,tr ue love, soul mates, abstinence, traditional and family values, vampirism, redemption, souls, love and have no graphic sex, nudity, profanity, gore, drug use or America bashing? Very few if any. It has universal appeal and has put old fashioned romance back in style. The movies will be hits due to the fans, characters and unique subject matter but the books are more detailed and better. They have been embraced world wide by all ages and genders. Pretty remarkable.
I dont see a Vampire story as origanal, but the Good Vampire story makes it better than all the samey - oldey vampire stories. Breaking Dawn is my Favorite book. Cant wait for that film, but i will enjoy them all either way. People who bag on Twilight probably havent even bothered to read the books, and find out that they are actually well written (although they are not my usual kind of book). I truly would be distraught though if my daughter brought home a vampire as a boyfriend, i wouldnt care if he was as handsome or as kind as Edward, it would be a no no.
